고리타분한 고려시대 도공 이야기같아서 중간에 그만둘까 하다가
그래도 뉴베리 메달 작품이라 기대를 하고 완독.
세번 울었다.
도둑놈들 때문에 낙화암에 던져진 화병의 조각 하나를 관리에게 가까스로 보여주고 인정받은 순간-두개의 화병이 모두 깨져버렸다고 생각한 순간 자신을 믿고 있는 모두를 실망시켰다는 좌절감에 자신도 몸을 던질까도 생각하지만 Crane-man의 당부가 생각나서 맘을 고쳐 먹는다.
집에 돌아와 기쁜 소식을 전하지만 그의 가족과 다름없는 Crane-man의 사망 소식을 들은 순간-Crane-man은 죽는 순간까지 Tree-ear가 만들어준 자그마한 원숭이 상을 손에 쥐고 있었다고 한다.
Min이 Tree-ear에게 니 물레(wheel)를 만들 나무를 해 오라고 한 순간-드디어 자신에게 가르침을 주겠다는 의미이므로...

Scholars read the great words of the world. But you and I must learn to read the world itself.
Then, as i went through life on one leg, it was said that I was like a crane. But besides standing on one leg, cranes are also a symbol of long life.
I think it a waste for either of us to spend too much time in sorrow over something we cannot change.
Why was it that pride and foolishness were so often close companions?
Leaping into death is not the only way to show true courage.
